Abstract:
This article analyses pottery as one of the most important elements of traditional Ukrainian food culture. The characteristics of Ukrainian pottery from the second half of the nineteenth century and the first half of the twentieth century are discussed. Attention is paid to the characteristics of their shapes and decoration. The study of pottery in the traditional Ukrainian food culture is a multifaceted scientific issue that requires interdisciplinary research. The origins and development of traditions of making, decorating of pottery its intended use and functionality, the use ceramics depend on several factors. First is the methods of food processing for festive, ceremonial and every day food supplies, as well as natural and geographical conditions, the nature of economic activity and the intensity of interactions with other nations.
