В статті розглянуто естетичну природу та жанрову еволюцію фольклорної австралійської балади 1820-х - 40-х років. Зафіксовані зміни в концепті ліричного героя та в поетичній картині світу досліджених творів доводять, що дана поетична форма виступала активним чинником формування самосвідомості австралійців.
The paper deals with esthetic characteristics and development of Australian folk ballad. Evident changes noted in the concept of a lyrical hero and in the general concept of the poetic world make it possible to state that Australian folk ballad of the early 19th century was definitely a moulding factor in the process of formation of new cultural identity of the former convicts, squatters and bushrangers.
