У статті розглядаються історичні передумови згасання духовної свободи у релігійному житті суспільства часів Російської імперії та виникнення у ньому явищ обрядовості й ритуалізму. М. Бердяєв та інші представники російського релігійно-філософського ренесансу бачили витоки цих негативних тенденцій у надмірному зрощенні російської церкви із самодержавством та прагнули оновити православну релігію, повернувши до неї справжню духовність.
Historical pre-conditions of fading of spiritual freedom in religious life of society of times of the Russian empire as well as the origin of the phenomena of ritualism are examined in the article. N. Berdyaev and other representatives of the Russian religious and philosophical renaissance consider the sources of these negative tendencies in surplus connectedness of the Russian Church and autocracy and aimed to renew orthodox religion, turning the real spirituality into it.
