The article offers an interpretation of Thomas Mann's "Tonio Kroger", placing it in the context of the symbolist philosophy of art and connecting it to the theory of the humanist culture revival as formulated by the German poets and philosophers of the beginning of the XXth century, who were infl uenced by the Russian thought.
