Проаналізовано розвиток досліджень і наукові результати з фізико-хімічної механіки матеріалів, яка є сучасним науковим напрямком у матеріалознавстві. Розглянуто основні етапи розвитку цього напрямку в НАН України, висвітлена роль Г.В. Карпенка у формуванні та розвитку цієї галузі науки. Синтезовані найважливіші результати, проілюстровані деякі їх практичні застосування, а також сформульовані актуальні задачі перспективних досліджень.
The analysis of the development of investigations and scientific results concerning physicochemical mechanics of materials - a contemporary trend in the field of materials science - are given. Main stages in the development of this trend in the National Academy of sciences of Ukraine are considered. The role of G.V. Karpenko in the formation and strengthening of this branch of science is shown. Most important scientific results are synthesized; their practical application is illustrated here too. Actual problems for prospective investigations have also been formulated.
