Розглядаються питання політики мультикультуралізму у Великій Британії, її ефективність в межах британського соціуму. В колі уваги — історичні передумови політики мультикультуралізму; етапи та сутність цієї політики відповідно до загальноєвропейських міграційних процесів та особливостей внутрішньої ситуації у Великій Британії. Автор аналізує причини недієвості політики «мільтікульті», висловлює власне бачення напрямів її реалізації з погляду на специфіку британського суспільства та досвіду інших держав.

The article deals with the peculiarities of multicultural policy of Great Britain, its effectiveness and consequences for British society. Historical preconditions of the policy of multiculturalism, stages and essence of this policy realization with respect to all-European migration processes after the collapse of colonial system and regarding internal situation in Great Britain are under discussion. Author reveals tendencies of multicultural policy as a concentration of a number of cultures in socialsphere of Great Britain, from the one side, and formation of communities within British society with their own identity, belief systems and values that are largely different from the accepted norms of Great Britain, from the other sie. As a result, there is a problem of immigrants and cultural minorities adaptation in their own society. In turn, this raises the question of corresponding strategy and necessity of serching alternative ways to solve it. Author defines possible ways of multicultural policy in Great Britain with due regard to specific features of British society and experience of other countries.
