In the article the principle of separation of powers is investigated through the prism of its origin, formation and explanation by the famous thinkers and implementation in Ukraine. Attention is paid to the ambiguity of scientific approaches to understand this principle and the problems which are connected with its implementation on the territory of our country. The principle of separation of powers is one of the main criteria for the state as a democratic organization of society. Its absence is evidence of non-democratic government and political system of the state. In addition to a number of political and legal institutions, such as elections, referendums, appeal to government agencies, appeal against decisions of the state authorities, etc., we note the existence of such specific areas in which the state interacts with society and society with the state. An important condition for the formation and development of a democratic state, which implemented the principle of division of power, is to establish a system of continuous and effective relationship between the state government and society.
