Starostiuk To the issue of functioning civil society and building legal state in Ukraine This scientific article is dedicated to the theoretical and historical problems of the civil society and of the legal state, the peculiarities of their functioning on the current stage of the development of Ukraine. The process of democratic, social and legal state's formation is closely connected to the civil society's forming. These issues get a real importance with regard to the finding out a role and influence of Ukrainian society on the actual complicated problems' solution. The aim of this article is to explore the main aspects of correlation between civil society and legal state, and also to reveal problems on their way of functioning and development. The authors point out that regardless of the difficulties of this historic period Ukrainian civil society appeared to be able to protect state's sovereignty, rights and freedoms of a human and a citizen. That's what on authors' opinion makes it play an important role in the development and stability of the legal state.
