The article is devoted to the defining of characteristic features of engineering contract and its definition as a civil agreement. This article focuses primarily on the specification of engineering contract characteristics and on defining the engineering contract as a civil law agreement. The views of domestic and foreign scientists on isolating the concepts of interpretation of the engineering contract are analyzed. The article provides the author's definition of engineering contract. As follows, it is proposed to consider this contract as a written agreement by which one of the parties (the performer) under the order the second party agrees to perform the list of engineering works in a specified period of time, and the other party shall pay the agreed amount of money and to duly accept the results. On grounds of the obtained material the main specifications of the agreement were separated, videlicet it is specifiedthat the engineering agreement is a bilateral, paid-up, consensual, fiduciary, aleatory, entrepreneurial, mixed, complex and usually the agreement of accession.
