A nonparametric procedure for a radar detection of inhomogeneous areas in homogeneous media is proposed. The method is based on using projection estimate of a density function applying potentisl functions. The detection of hail zones on the background of rain is used to illustrate the non-parametric method presented in the paper. The main advantage of the method is that no a priori information is necessary to solve a detection problem.
