To determine safe service lifetime of aircraft structures, three basic maintenance concepts are used. This paper emphasizes the principles, advantages and inconveniences of each concept. This paper also analyses important criteria to determine the optimum threshold of surveillance and inspection intervals. The objective of this study is to discuss the selection criteria of Structural Significant Item (SSI), according to Maintenance Steering Guide (MSG3).
