In 1980 a program was initiated at Baylor University to develop ethanol as a replacement for leaded aviation gasoline. Since that time, 11 different aircraft have been modified and extensively flight-tested in every conceivable condition. Extensive test stand programs have shown increased power, cleaner exhaust emissions and potential for substantial increases in TBO when neat ethanol is used as a fuel.
