Children participate in sport at all levels, from school involvement to international competition. Children differ substantially from adults in their ability to meet the demands which sport places upon them, hence coaches need to understand the nature of children, their capabilities and limitations, their needs and desires and the ways in which they change so rapidly and how to use this information for the benefit of the children they coach.
This book has been written to fill the gap which exists between the theory and practice of coaching children. Teachers, researchers and coaches have been commissioned to write on their specialist areas and their contributions have been grouped into five parts: Children and Sport - an introduction; Developmental Changes in Children; Important Psychological Aspects of Children's Participation in Sport; Applying Theory to Practice and Good Practice in Coaching.
