до послідовного самодослідження витіснених аспектів ідентичності;

The aim of the study is to identify and analyze the characteristics of
self-identification in the self-portraits of Viennese artists of the early 20th
century — Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, Richard Gerstl, and Max
Oppenheimer. The historiography of the subject has been analyzed and a source
base established, encompassing general works on the history of Austrian culture
at the turn of the 19th–20th centuries, monographs and articles devoted to
individual artists, as well as visual sources held in the collections of Viennese
museums and digital platforms. The socio-cultural context of Vienna in the
early 20th century has been examined, particularly the influence of the crisis of
the Habsburg Monarchy, antisemitic attitudes, and new philosophical systems
on the formation of artistic strategies of self-representation. The self-portraits of
each of the four artists have been analyzed in the context of self-identification,
and the common and distinctive features of their strategies have been identified.
It has been established that Schiele developed a concept of the self-portrait as an
act of self-creation through dystonic bodily deformation, religious iconography,
and gender ambivalence; Kokoschka's strategy, shaped at the intersection of
Nietzschean and Freudian philosophy and articulated through the concept of the
"relational self", has been examined; Gerstl's trajectory has been traced from
sacralized self-representation and the classical formula of the artist's portrait
with attributes of craft toward a consistent self-investigation of repressed
aspects of identity; and Oppenheimer's strategy, distinguished by the realization
of self-identification through the depiction of his own social circle in a sacred
context, has been defined.
The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive consideration of the
comparative analysis of the self-portrait work of all four artists through a single
prism of self-identification in a common socio-cultural context.
The practical significance of the results lies in the possibility of using the
research materials in the educational process when teaching courses in the
history and theory of art, particularly topics related to Austrian art of the early
20th century and the problematics of the self-portrait.
