This scientific paper presents a comprehensive analysis of art venues as a source for the formation of cultural zones and their impact on the cultural development of regions. The researcher focuses on the interrelationship between a work of art and the space in which it is situated. The phenomenon of public art (art for public spaces) is examined, the issue of ethics in the formation of cultural zones is raised, and new data from neuroaesthetics and neurobiology regarding the influence of art on the human body are studied. Definitions of art locations are provided in both a general and a specific sense. A classification of cultural zones based on 10 criteria is presented. The following is a breakdown of Kyiv’s cultural zones according to their historical development, with a view to the further development of culture in the city. Problematic issues are outlined concerning the preservation of historical monuments, the renovation of industrial buildings for cultural purposes, and the lack of sufficient studios for young artists. The necessity of joint research between art historians, sociologists, architects and economists is demonstrated. Examples are given of artists’ involvement in the design of big socially projects, along with practical steps for the development of cultural zones in Ukraine.
